New Braunfels PD Supports Hope Hospice Staff
Safety tips we can all use - courtesy of the New Braunfels Police Department
Officers Henderson and Gardner of the New Braunfels Police Department presented safety tips to the Hope Hospice staff Thursday. Their presentation included how to stay safe in the office, the parking lot, at patients' homes, and in one's own home and neighborhood.
These tips are not hospice-specific, but were especially appreciated by the staff of Hope Hospice as they travel extensively to administer care and comfort to hospice patients in Comal, Guadalupe, Bexar, Hays, Caldwell and Kendall counties. Employees working in the office during off-peak hours such as evenings or weekends are encouraged to walk to and from their cars with another co-worker and to use the building entrance with the best lighting. Whether you are at work, the gym, or even out shopping, vigilance is key! Officers Henderson and Gardner encourage the public to be aware of their surroundings.
Whether you are a hospice staff member, or perhaps you are working in a job that requires extensive travel or visiting many homes, personal safety is of the utmost importance. If you are in an unfamiliar neighborhood, look around your vehicle before exiting. If you see anything suspicious, move to a safer location and get more information. In situations like these, cell phones are a vital tool. Officers Gardner and Henderson also recommended personal safety or self-defense training courses and other personal safety items such as pepper spray, personal alarms or whistles.
Lastly, these two New Braunfels Police Officers advocated becoming involved in your neighborhood watch group. Getting to know your neighbors and establishing routines can help you as a group identify suspicious behavior. For tools and resources to start or maintain your own neighborhood watch group, visit the websites for the New Braunfels Police Department or the National Crime Prevention Council.
Hope Hospice encourages its staff, patients, friends and neighbors to be safe, and sends a special thank-you to our New Braunfels Police Department!
